Hello! My name is Stephanie and I am looking to work with children in the bay area!

A Little About Me and My Style:

I am 24 years old, have a short hair cat named Tucker, am an avid swimmer and jogger, love reading, and am an outdoors enthusiast. I hike, backpack, jog, ski, kayak and rock climb. My current goal is to participate in a triathalon. When I watch children I love playing active games, going to parks, or on walks, and keeping children moving. I also enjoy reading and acting out stories with kids. I've even been known to brew up a science experiment or art activity.

Work Experience:

I have been working with children for the last 10 years. I worked as a baby sitter for 6 years, off and on, starting when I was about 14. I looked after neighborhood children, younger cousins and the children of family friends. I was particularly the go-to baby sitter for high-energy boys. While earning my B.A. in Environmental Studies and Economics, I was a swim instructor during my summers off and an after school day care aide during the school year. I then attended Sacramento State, earning my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2012, after student teaching for a year and a half. This past summer I was the Lead Science Instructor at Galileo Summer Camp in Menlo Park. I love working and playing with children. Their energy and enjoyment is infectious. :)

About My Care and Child Specifics:

I have most often worked with children above the age of 2. Those are who I most enjoy working with but I am willing to watch infants for shorter amounts of time as well.

I have experience working with children that have special needs in a recreational atmosphere. I taught two boys, one 7 and one 5, to swim that had physical disabilities that limited their movements. One of these children also had a mental disability. I am comfortable working with children with mild  to moderate disabilities and may work with a child with severe disabilities for the right child.

I am also highly experienced at working with children with ADD/ADHD from my teaching experience. These children are particularly special to me and I thoroughly enjoy working with them.

I am also comfortable watching most kinds of pets, including, but not limited to: dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles, and amphibians. I would be less comfortable with insects.

While I only speak and understand a limited amount of Spanish, I am working on learning more. However, I am specifically trained to teach English Language Learners.
