I am a student at Williams College in Massachusetts in D.C. for the summer. My childcare experience has run the gamut from nannying full-time for a D.C. family last summer to au pairing for a bilingual family in Madrid. I think it’s important for kids to have chill-out time when they aren't being entertained by adults. A child’s typical day with me will include two or three activities—baking pita breads, crafting, a scavenger hunt, storytime, etc.—broken up by play time, daydreaming, navel-gazing, talking, etc. That said, I want to with the grain of a family, and I try to solicit what parents what in their child’s life—and live up to those expectations as best I can.
