Hi there,
I am an extremely experienced nanny, with over 15 years of professional experience caring for and teaching children, in all forms of their development. I have a 6-year-old son who makes a wonderful playmate! Typically, we go for bike rides, swims, 123 Little Me...farms for apple & berry picking...Bradley State Park in the summer, or a few hours out at Cashman, Inn Street, the Library....you know the rounds! We do TONS of painting, playdoe and arts & crafts, games, puzzles, and creative things. Yesterday we painted the sea shells we found at the beach, for example. We are in motion for much of the day.
Some of my previous jobs include: elementary school literacy tutor, teacher in a school for dyslexic children, and Director of Communications at a boarding school (lots of coaching, dorm duty, and more tutoring!), and before that, 11 years as a nanny to many different children - most of whom I still keep in touch with. I have excellent references! I started by working full time as a nanny during summers in high school and continued throughout college and beyond. I have worked with virtually every combination of age, gender, and personality type!
I create a safe, fun, and silly environment - but also one with firm boundaries, consistencies, and consequences. For me, discipline (I use time-outs, mostly) can be fairly painless, as I have it down to a rather mathematical science that works every time. (Because I perform it the same way each time, and when it's over, we move on quickly.) Things do not need to escalate out of control. That said, I am an extremely loving and silly mom and caregiver. I instill good manners, routines, consequences, and rewards. I like to nip things in the bud, but I also use these experiences as ways to teach and interact. I love to catch children doing things "right." My son is goofy and I love it...I'm not tightly wound and I let him explore and have fun...as long as he is not in danger or being disrespectful.
I have a safe car (volvo) a clean driving record (and background too, I might as well add), and we are very healthy (vegan), although I'm happy to prepare what ever you'd like for your children. I actually love to cook, and I consider nutrition sort of a hobby...so I like to keep it generally processed-free; however, life is life and kids are kids and sometimes you just have to work with what you have. Still, it's always a goal.
I treat every child in my care with a tremendous amount of love and attention; and I think this would be a great way to balance my life (in terms of spending time with my son) while helping another busy family balance theirs!
I do a lot of web design and video editing work on the side, so I have plenty of short movies that act as a sort of online "resume!" Here is the latest one....<WEBSITE>¤t=LiamAvaTalan.mp4
