My name is Joyce Hughes, I am 27 years old and I have a combined number of 13 years of strong teaching and administrative experience in education as well as babysitting and child care assistance. My most recent position as Assistant Director of a 5 Star Child care Center gave me the administrative and leadership experience I need to successfully fulfill any child care position. As assistant director I was given the opportunity to strengthen my leadership skills and communication skills by working closely with all staff and parents. I work well with others and pride myself in my fairness and the ability to handle any situation in a professional manner. Some of my duties included: schedule meetings, lead workshops, create lunch menus- according to the NC Child Nutrition Standards, cook, drive the can and any other duty needed to keep the center running at its 5 Star rating.
I have much experience as a Lead teacher as well, teaching “at risk” preschool children as the Two year old Lead teacher and Four year old Lead teacher. These positions enabled me to provide these students with a “head start” in mastering basic skills and skills needed to thrive and succeed in Kindergarten. I was challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient. I absolutely love working with children and therefore believe all students should experience meaningful and interesting learning strategies that apply to their lives. This can be accomplished through the use of hands-on activities, cooperative learning, an integrated curriculum, and, when possible, technology. I created lesson plans, selected themes, curriculums all according to the NC State Guidelines. I also assisted in successfully potty training a few of the children. As assistant director I utilized my skills as a teacher to better motivate my staff and challenge them to be the best educator that they could be.
My previous positions as a Substitute teacher, Line Therapist and babysitter allowed me to further develop my skills as an educator. As a substitute teacher I was able to connect with students of all ages. Occasionally, I was given the freedom to experiment while teaching and following the plans of the teacher. I took pride in my ability to make learning fun and interesting. As a Line Therapist I used Applied Behavior Analysis which is a specially created teaching method specialized and centered around teaching children with autism. I worked closely with 3 boys with severe to high functioning autism all between the ages of 6 & 7. It was a challenge and it was new to me, however, I learned so much from those children and was eternally inspired. I worked closely with them daily and consistently on fine and gross motor skills, self help skills, speech, manners and anything that would assist them in the journey of functioning appropriately around their peers. As a babysitter I first learned the importance of child care. While sitting for teachers and peers in college I learned just how comfortable I was doing this job. I was a natural and have come to find that this is certainly my calling. The positions listed above have collectively strengthen my teaching and one on one communication skills with my students while developing new skills and tactics.
Currently I provide childcare from my home, I have age appropriate toys and learning materials for all ages. I strongly encourage learning through play and repetition as keys to success in educating our youth. As you can see in my profile as well as above, I have several years of experience that prove my seriousness and dedication to this field. I love children and I love education along with the opportunity to assist your children in excelling and continuing to reach their highest potential.
*As you will see in my profile I have completed the suggested criminal background check; however as a child care employee in the state of NC we are required to participate in a much more in-depth background check. I have that for your convenience.*
