I am a recent graduate of Wake Forest University currently living in rural Thailand.  I will be back in the U.S. October 2012. 

I graduated with a teaching licenese and a B.A. in Elementary Education.  I have been working with children for many years.  In high school I volunteered for neighbors and friends and taught swim lessons to the neighborhood children in my back yard.  I worked at a residential summer camp for 4 years and was on the leadership staff for the younger girls for one year.  During my time there I was a lifeguard, swim instructor, and taught sailing.  I usually lived with about 10 eight year olds along with one or two other counselors.  Being a camp counselor inspired me enter the field of teaching.  This past fall I student taught in a first grade classroom and became comfortable with children younger than I was previously used to and also gained experience with boys.  Throughout college I have volunteer tutored and also involved myself with various events on campus such as our Halloween festival for tricker-treaters that cannot go door to door in their own neighborhoods.  I have a love for working with children and enjoy giving back to my community.
     When it comes to caring for children my main philosophy is that all children need to be loved by the adults in their life.  My principle from student teaching said something that has stuck with me "When you look at a child, look at them with love.  They may frustrate you or be driving you crazy, but if you don't look like you like them, they can tell.  Look at every child like you love them."  I have worked with a variety of children and all of them benefit from a caring adult that will listen to their stories.
