I recently moved to Portland to practice tango, yoga, and work as an Teacher in a Waldorf Preschool. I have a commitment to learn Waldorf methods and educating myself in many different parenting methods, this means attending child care conferences, talks, reading books, and studying under a mentor at the preschool I currently work at. My contract ends in May and I will be available for full time work in the summer.
I have worked as a certified professional babysitter, nanny, teacher, and performer. I have extensive experience teaching and babysitting with kids of all ages. I love to spend time outside of the home and will also create new exciting experiences within the home. I am available to take kids on field trips to museums, fairs, story times, or whatever your hearts desire. I stay in close communication with parents before, during (if needed), and after the events. Safety is my first objective in all situations. I also teach theater at various places and have been responsible for the education and well being of children in all age groups.
Ideally, I would like to be an extension of a family. I want to find a family that I can trust and be open with. I would like to be with a family where I could stay for a year or more. I take it upon myself to communicate closely with the parents so that I will help guide children into the highest vision their parents have for them. It is also important to recognize the spirit of the child and respect that children are their own people. My job as a caregiver is to always be creating balance in the child's life.
I am proficient in vegetarian cooking but I am not opposed to preparing carnivorous meals if that is part of the culture in the home. I am always finding new crafts and activities to share. I love to sing all day long.
This past month, I attended two child care/child education conferences that invigorated my fun in learning about children and how to create environments in which they can thrive. Both conferences awarded me with Early Childhood Education Credits. My favorite child care books are "Over the Rainbow Bridge" and "Heaven on Earth."
A little more about me:
I am American raised over seas in the Middle East. I grew up in a family oriented international community. I traveled the world with my family and experienced many cultures. My childhood activities included: crafting, dance, swim team, soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, piano, voice, acting, and horseback riding (dressage).
I went to high school at Brooks, a college preparatory boarding school, in North Andover, Massachusetts. I spent a gap year at school in Oxford, England then continued on to the University of Colorado at Boulder where I graduated in 2007.
Theatre and Dance have always been a big part of my life. I taught basic theatre, Shakespeare, movement, voice, and miscellaneous creative work . I taught dance as an assistant when I was in middle school and as an adult. I studied, ballet (pointe), jazz, tap, clogging, lyrical, and belly/veil dance. At University I studied jazz, African dance, and Modern.
I want to continue teaching children in creative ways. I think that the most effective way to grow is through creativity. In creating my own artistic work I would like to inspire people who seek out a more complete understanding of others that they do not understand.
