My name is Melissa. I am a licensed school counselor with almost ten years experience working with children and adolescents. I received my masters degree in school counseling from the University of North Carolina in 2001. I have two beautiful daughters of my own who are 10 and 4. In addition to my own experience as a parent and educational professional, I have served as a babysitter for others' children for many years - and all ages - newborns to teens. Please note, during the school year, I am not available weekdays during the day, only evenings and weekends, as I work full time in a middle and high school. Therefore, date nights are my speciality! You can tell from my pictures, I enjoy photography as well (all pictures are of kids I have cared for, photos used with parent permission, of course!). I love to cook with kids - I find that if they help prepare a meal and talk about colors, tastes and textures, they will try almost anything! I do not like for the kids to watch tv, perhaps a movie if it is raining or everyone is just exhausted, but I do not even have cable tv at my house! Nature walks, puzzles, board games, art projects, reading books and dancing are some of my favorite things to do with little ones! Sometimes even boredom is a good thing! How many incredibly creative ideas kids can come up with if they are not given any structured activity and even become a little bored!

She showed up a couple minutes early with a bag of toys and books, and my daughter took a liking to her right away. Melissa has babysat now for our two daughters on several occasions. She is always very professional - a few minutes early, brings crafts and games for the girls to play and is very knowledgeable about child development. Our children request her every time and we have no worries when leaving the kids with her. In fact, she is babysitting for us for five days while we go on a parent-only vacation. She even brought her own children once (at our request). I highly recommend you ask her children to come over sometimes, our kids thought it was a big playdate and they had so much fun. Not surprising, her children are well behaved and very sweet, but fun too. She will only bring her kids if you ask her to though, so you have to request them. - Ron K.
