Uma Thurman to Play Nanny
She’s had dark roles as an assassin (Kill Bill) and a gangster’s girlfriend (Pulp Fiction), but Uma Thurman is taking on a much lighter role in her next film, Eloise in Paris — she’ll play the title character’s beloved nanny.
“I’ve always wanted to do a proper kids movie,” says Thurman. “I don’t make a lot of movies that you can show children.” In fact, Eloise in Paris is Thurman’s first official children’s movie.
For those of you who don’t know, Eloise in Paris is based on the classic 50s children’s book about a six-year-old girl who lives in a top floor room of the Plaza Hotel in New York with her nanny, her pug dog Weenie and her turtle Skipperdee. When Mom announces they’re all going to celebrate Eloise’s birthday in Paris, during Fashion Week, Eloise and Nanny head overseas for an adventure.
“I loved the books myself as a child and have enjoyed them since then,” Thurman said, though she does mention that the film’s “definitely going to be a different take from the traditional nanny in the book.” Wonder what that means!
We’ll have to wait until 2009 to find out.
Production for Eloise in Paris begins next month in Paris (of course), London and New York.
