Separation anxiety happens to all decent size dogs as well as most small ones. my dogs ripped a book to shreds, luckily it wasn’t a book I am reading anymore.

i have a chihuaha and he is almost 5 yrs old and i have been very lucky he has only chewed up a 5 cent toy once other than that i have never had a problem with him

Just remember, Puppy’s need Love, Patience, Understanding, Training, Companionship, Toys, Training Treats etc……….Let the Puppy sniff around his/her new home, and start with the Potty Training, by the back door, kitchen area etc………..Please have Patience and alot of Love!!! I have a rottie/chow mix..I went up stairs and heard a noise came down stairs to find my sofa and loveseat both were torn down to the wood frame..it was just a matter of me walking up the stairs to my bedroom and back down..He was of course only..about 12-15 weeks at the time and overheard me say I would like new living room furniture..I told him I didn’t mean right this second..he used to stand on the kitchen table at night and sleep there..at the bottom of the table chairs..other than that he outgrew it..and is the best pup in the world he is now 6 years old..wouldn’t trade him for a million dollars…

I’m shocked that labs didn’t make the list. Have you seen what a lab with separation anxiety can do to a sofa in an hour? I have. My golden did it too. Glad my current lab is crated when home alone. She does not behave when we are gone.

pharrbetterpetcare, it’s a good idea to leave a toy like a Kong toy where the dog needs to work at getting a treat from the toy. This will keep your dog busy for a while. Your dog may also have separation anxiety. You may also need to get your dog some exercise to drain some energy and have him get rid of any urine or bawl movements before you leave.

All breeds must be taught house rules as part of the family. With proper training destructive behavior can be redirected to a wanted behavior.

I have a dachsund, and one time I shut him in the bathroom when I went to the store - he tore up all of the linoleum around the door within an hour! Last time I did that!
