Future Petsitters of America

Middle school students in Illinois aren’t just taking classes like algebra, English and chemistry. Many of them are also enrolling in a new class on pet care, offered as part of the school’s last-period “flex” schedule.

For several South View Middle School students with good grades, last period’s 30-minute class is pet care. (Other “enrichment” courses include options like golf, cooking, babysitting…)

In pet care, kids are learning everything from animal anatomy and behavior to how to handle and hold creatures such as bunnies. Sounds like a great foundation for some future petsitters!

We just have one question: Where was this kind of program when we were in middle school? :-)
