It’s about that time, ladies and gents. Memorial Day is this month and now is the perfect time to post a job for a Memorial Day petsitter. Typically, we recommend posting jobs about 2-4 weeks in advance, but since this is a holiday weekend we’re talking about, you’ll want to get a head start.

Here are the critical things to include in your petsitter job posting:

• Your first name
• Your location
• The length of the job (the entire 3-day weekend? Just Saturday?)
• The type of pet you have
• An overview of job tasks (dog walking, feeding fish, etc.)
• Any special requests for your petsitter (bringing in the mail, for example)
• Your rate (click here for guidance)
• Accurate contact info — email/phone
• Any special instructions on when to call/email

And here’s an example of a good job posting:

I am looking for a petsitter for all three days of Memorial Day weekend in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. My dog is a 2-year-old Boston Terrier and he’s very friendly (no guard dog here!). He’s also perfectly housetrained and pretty good on a leash. I’ll need you to come by three times each day to play with him and let him out, and I’d love for you to talk him on a quick walk during one of those daily visits as well. The rate is $50 per day. If interested, please contact Kate at 888-555-4567 between 6pm and 9pm on weekdays or email me anytime at kate@fakeemail.com.
