The $22,000 Cat

Yes, you read that right. There does exist a cat that comes with a hefty price tag that rivals that of a loaded Honda Civic. The cat is called the Ashera, and is a cross between the African serval, Asian leopard cat and a domestic cat.

Weighing around 30 pounds, this exotic breed is more like a dog — and not one of those tiny celebrity dogs that were the biggest craze a while back (thanks, Paris). The Ashera almost looks like a mini leopard, with its spots and contrasting stripes.

The company’s website (Lifestyle Pets) claims that the Ashera is “fully socialized,” gets along well with children and other pets, is highly intelligent and affectionate, and can be walked on a leash. And if you’re going to be walking a mini leopard down the street, yes, put that thing on a leash.

To own an Ashera, you’d have to pay the $22,000 upfront and wait nine months to a year to get your precious kitty.

Of course, if you don’t want to pay as much or wait as long, you could also check out the Savannah. It looks like an Ashera but costs more like $4,000-$6,000.
