Help
I am a caregiver having trouble finding jobs in my area. What can I do?
Back to helpYou can do tons!
- Get certified: Show that you are well-prepared by getting certified in CPR, training in first aid or taking another course. Several caregivers can also get licensed, bonded and insured to show how trustworthy they are.
- Visit often: When members search for caregivers, the results are sorted by caregiver rank, with the top 20% listed first. Those who log in most frequently have a higher rank so members don't see stale profiles. If you log in frequently, you are more likely to appear at the top of results lists.
- Provide references: This is members' #1 criterion for picking which caregiver to call, so try to include two full references in your profile. You can list a former employer, a neighbor, even a family member if you're new to the biz -- just make sure these people agree to serve as a reference before you list them.
- Sign up for numerous types of care. The more care types you list, the more searches you'll appear in. Increase your visibility by signing up for several care types you are qualified for.
- Search for jobs: You can use the "Search for Jobs" feature from your My Sittercity dashboard to see open jobs in your area. Also, you may want to sign up for Sittercity's daily job alert email, which delivers all local jobs directly to your inbox each day.
- Update your profile often: Did you schedule change for the summer? Have you recently gotten CPR-certified? Make sure your profile reflects your current availability and experience, otherwise members may contact you for a job that doesn't fit your schedule or resources.
- Urge members to give feedback: Earning reviews for your profile will give other members a vote of confidence in your abilities.
- Provide a relevant ZIP code: Some universities have their own ZIP codes, which Sittercity doesn't recognize. Rather than listing this, provide the ZIP code of the town in which your college is located.
- Spread the word. The more care seekers we have on the site, the more jobs there will be! So let all those busy adults -- in your social circle, at work, in the neighborhood, at the grocery store, wherever! -- know about Sittercity.
