With great enthusiasm I welcome the joy, challenge & privilege that come with entering a child's life & world. I hold a tremendous respect for their teeny developing brains and personalities as well as, an extraordinary sense of responsibility for their well being, entrusted to me.I have worked with families with high-powered & demanding positions & know the value of discretion but also creating a supportive familial atmosphere.

I grew up with a father who was a child/adolescent psychologist. Subsequently, talks at the dinner table were often about cognitive development & how to improve the lives of young ones. I spent several summers interning and learning things from neuro vestibular stimulation for infants, to sensory play to improve the cognitive achievements and finally the use of manipulative's for engaging, purposeful, self-directed work for children and teens.

I often understand the challenges of growing up feeling misunderstood or different & have had great success with children with learning differences.

I am a trained, educated & practicing artist. I was educated in painting, drawing, sculpture, design, printmaking, enameling & glass. I also was trained in art theory. My greatest passion when caring for kids is to develop a sense of play, wonder & discovery in them. This could be through art, science, math, ect. I also feel these genres overlap. I have developed playful ways to infuse & sneak in lessons that make learning fun! And it should be. I have some background in Montessori & Waldorf sensory learning & feel it is an excellent way to introduce learning to little minds that soak up everything. I furiously read & write & like to pass on these gifts to the kids.

I also am an avid proponent of health; both in how we nourish our bodies & how we exercise them. I love sports. I love to run, play, tickle, make up games. I think sports teach important lessons that are analogous to how we interact & handle social situations in our greater lives.

My personal methods of exercising are: running, yoga, biking, equitation, hiking, kayaking & swimming.

I study about clean, whole foods & how it helps fuel our bodies. My step-mother is also a nutritionist so, I have learned these basic principles as I have grown. I am extremely sensitive & aware of food allergies (I have them myself) & am diligent when it comes to meals & snacks.

I love to have quiet time as much as play time. Doing chores & homework are a priority for me. I am an excellent cook who enjoys preparing meals for others. I am exceptionally organized & make sure to keep things neat. I have a high tolerance for difficult situations & am prepared to discipline without yelling & following the individuals family rules. I find remaining calm, open and empathetic,c leads to better resolutions of a meltdown. My strategy is often to get down on their level and ask them what they think they could have improved on and how they could react better in the future.

I have a reliable car & excellent driving record. Going on errands or trips to museums is no problem. I enjoy & know how to care for animals as well. My availability s flexible & open.

Infants/babies need sensory experiences too, both visually, orally and audibly. I enjoy seeing their eyes light up, or a switch turned on through age appropriate games, play and puzzles. I'm versed in cooking fresh baby food, diapers changes,  bottle feeding, tummy-timee, bathing, singing/reading,/holding/walking to sooth, and calm a little one down  .

Being attentive receptive, and listening to the child (no matter the age) AND the parents wishes works best. For older children, open and direct communication (of their responsibility, how the day might flow, expectations, ect) and the parent's communication to the nanny (and vice versa) is ideal for all.

I do not own a television and have no interest in watching TV or talking on the phone. My job is to engage with the baby/child, play, educate and nurture. I also am familiar with cooking from scratch and am sensitive not to encourage junk food.

I am a non-smoker, drinker, or drug abuser. I will submit to any background and urine checks you request.

I wash my hands religiously, am up to date on shots, see my doctor regularly and very rarely get sick.

I am available to sleep over and go on family trips when requested.

Excellent job references upon request from infant, toddler and elementary age long term caregiving/nannying.

The photos shared (at the top) are, in order: My husband and I, myself teaching printmaking to my students, the owner (also my friend) of Elizabeth Restaurant in Chicago and I foraging (a passion of mine) for fresh wild food to be prepared in the week's menu, my husband and I again at a family Christmas gathering.
