Dani, born in 1984, started babysitting at 12 years old and continued through her school years. She is the eldest of 5 kids. When she was 16 her parents had their 5th and final child, a girl, and Dani was a very involved sitter-sister through the first three years.
In addition to caring for her infant sister, Dani was enrolled in a daycare course through high school. Graduating from her Florida school in 2002 with a year of formal instruction and experience was an early launch into an enduring child care career.
Some time after high school, Dani relocated to MA, enrolled in the state-run childcare program and attended classes for, and achieved, her state-issued Assistant's Certification for a large family home day care (10 kids, 2 adults!). She worked, for almost three years, alongside a wonderful provider for almost three years. They shared the responsibilities of caring for children ranging from 3 month old infants to to 7 year old busy bodies.
Dani did return to Florida for a time and took a break from child care. While exploring a career in dog training (not entirely dissimilar fields!), she learned valuable business and - more importantly - people skills necessary to successfully manage, instruct, and communicate with employees and pet-parents. As lead instructor, she was solely responsible for weekly progress reports, customer relations, and problem solving as well as scheduling and organization of classes and office work designation. While she did discover that her real passion lies in teaching children and not pet-parents, the business and communication skills she acquired during her time as the head of a training department translate well into the Early Childhood Education field.
Since 2010, Dani has dedicated herself to furthering her ECE knowledge base through continuing education courses, a college degree (rather than state certification), and the attendance of ECE conventions and workshops.
She is an avid reader, a writer and an artist, and she does still do some dog training as a hobby. She dabbles in several languages and has a varied, well-rounded assortment of hobbies and interests. She has a standard poodle and a severe macaw.
From March '10 to present, I have been working as a nanny for an absolutely wonderful family. They have one boy who is SUCH a great kid and so much fun to work with.
