I am a stay at home mom with a 23 month old son & a 4 year old daughter. I hold preschool for them in my home & you would know that by just looking around! I have an arts & crafts center (complete with chalkboard/dry erase easel & a whole refurbished china cabinet full of googly eyes, foam paper, pom poms, glue sticks, etc), a learning center (filled with mutiple mediums for learning the fundamentals of preschool) , enormous piles of books, and I hold music time every day (I play guitar & sing). We eat healthy foods and learn about the importance of nutrition and physical activity. We also have a giant playground within walking distance for nice days.
I volunteer with my church & teach Sunday school to four year olds before attending my own service. I am a part of a church LifeGroup that meets once a week to discuss the Bible in depth. I have two loving (declawed) cats and one sweet dog that is VERY good with children.
I do not believe it is ever necessary to slap or spank a child. I provide time out and one on one conversation to gain understanding. I feel that hitting a child will only show them that hitting leads to getting what you want. Hitting, throwing, foul language, and unnecessary yelling is not permitted. I am extremely loving & laid back, and I do not believe you have to yell at a child to get them to listen. It's more important that you pay attention to children & respond to their needs appropriately. No two children are alike.
I am also an extremely patient caregiver. My father suffered a severe stroke in 2008 & I became his primary caregiver. I worked with him every day (even the days where he shunned me away and said he "gave up") to regain his speech and comprehension. I provided him with supplemental speech, occupational, and physical therapy. He has made significant progress and now lives on his own.
I would love to bring one or two more children into my home to enhance the experience for them and share the learning opportunities that my children are afforded daily.
