I became a nanny in 2000, where I worked with a family who I actually found the old fashioned way--the newspaper. It turned out that, even in a large city (Atlanta at the time), this family personally knew one of my references! I cared for their little girl from the time she was 10 months old until she was about 10 years old. Duties included meal preparation and feeding, giving bottles, putting down for naps, daily baths, reading aloud, diaper changing, projects, crafts and creative play, driving to school and picking up from school, help with homework, errands, trips to the park and zoo, attending birthday parties, laundry, keeping kitchen and play spaces neat and clean, signing for packages delivered to the house, relaying information from the parents to other hired help in the house (housekeeping services, construction workers, etc), handling bank deposits, being trusted with parents' credit cards while running errands, and handling household emergencies (and there were some that came up!)
