Special Update: 2.11
Recertified in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
Hello! My name is Jody Vajko and I live in Port Orchard, WA. My husband and I are both long time residents of the Pacific Northwest. The nanny profession rather fell in my lap about 8 yrs. ago. My sister informed me that her boss, an orthodontist, came into their office frantic when her nanny didn’t show up for work! I interviewed with the family and my life took a dramatic change for the better! In the past several years I have worked for more than 10 families - caring for children between 3 months and 11 years in age, as both a nanny and as a "date night" sitter.
Currently, a good portion of my week is spent in my art studio as an acrylic artist. My husband works in watercolors and is a fine art photographer in his "spare" time. We have one son left at home, (age 17,) with our 3 older daughters grown - with homes of their own. This summer saw two daughters married within six days of each other! And, this past year we became grinning grandparents with a beautiful baby boy added to our family.
My life experience with children includes serving as both a volunteer and as Nursery Supervisor in our church for over 4 years. Spending hours in the nursery, I gained extensive experience with infants and toddlers. I also deeply enjoy school age children! In fact, there isn’t an age range that I don’t appreciate and delight in when it comes to young people. My special interests include nutrition and creative play activities.
ASL became a part of how I express myself while serving as part of a church-based Sign Language Ministry for five years. I have used the "Baby Signing Time" DVDs to teach ASL signs to three children who have been speech delayed. Two of them no longer need their speech therapist! While the third, at 2 1/2 yrs., is now trying to repeat everything that her parents and nannies verbalize! Lastly, as an Americorps volunteer I worked alongside adults with developmental disabilities for 2 years within the L'Arche Tahoma Hope community. I would welcome the opportunity to care for children with special needs.
Having transitioned my job base to the Kitsap Peninsula I am now working with two families on a weekly basis. Feel free to contact me for a special occasion date night or overnight arrangement. At this time, I am booking 2 weeks out.
I look forward to your inquiry!
Reviews & References
Jody has been a nanny for our 2.5 year old daughter for almost 2 years. Our daughter was born prematurely and was initially anxious around any new people and potential caregivers. She immediately made a good connection with Jody’s loving gentleness. Jody is particularly gifted at making babies and toddlers feel safe and at putting them to sleep (even when no one else can). She is good at encouraging fussy eaters and even children with eating disorders to try new foods and eat more. She is also very creative with artwork and games to help keep children occupied. For any parent with a hearing impaired child or one that has difficulty speaking, she is fluent in ASL and can teach it to your child. Because we were first time parents with a child facing developmental challenges, for about a year we rigorously searched the Seattle Sittercity databases for the best possible nannies. We emailed over 150, we had phone conversations with about 50, we had personal interviews with 20. Jody is one of the best of those. As a parent of her own children and a caregiver for many young infants Jody has wealth of life experience that you and your child will benefit from. She is completely trustworthy, and your child will come to love her. - James S.
