Genevieve Thiers Speaks at Loyola University

Founder of Sittercity.com Speaks to Marketing Entrepreneurial Class

Tuesday, December 9, 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Chicago, IL.) - As a noted young, entrepreneurial dynamo in Chicago, Loyola University’s School of Business Administration invited Genevieve Thiers, founder and CEO of Sittercity.com, America’s first and largest online source for caregivers, to speak to their group of future entrepreneurs.

Thiers was tapped to offer tips on ways to market yourself as an entrepreneur, public relations tactics, brand-building and general entrepreneurship issues.

Thiers discussed her entrepreneurial spirit, which was born when she attended college in Boston. While in school, Thiers worked her way through school babysitting for more than 30 families. One fateful day, Thiers saw a pregnant woman slowing climbing the nearly 200 steps to Boston College's upper campus to post flyers for a babysitting job. Horrified, Thiers asked the mother-to-be for the flyers, sent her home and posted them herself. While papering the university, Thiers had an epiphany. What if there was one central place where parents could meet all of the sitters and nannies in that city? And with this, Sittercity was born. With many “no’s” and doors slammed in her face, she ventured on to make a name for herself as a powerful business owner and an innovator in her field.

Video clips from Thiers’s speaking engagement will be available on www.loyola.edu.
