Genevieve Thiers Shares Her Experience Founding a New Tech Category with the Next Generation at Microsoft/YWCA EventCHICAGO, March 26, 2009 --- Genevieve Thiers, who successfully turned the nugget of an idea into a multi-million dollar business, will share some of the secrets to her success with dozens of Chicago-area young girls at an event co-sponsored by Microsoft and the Chicago YWCA on Thursday, March 26.
Thiers, who created a new tech category that links parents in need of care providers with experienced sitters in cities across the nation, has received numerous accolades including: Forbes Junior Power League, Crain’s 40 Under 40, President Bush Small Business Administration Young Entrepreneur Champion of the Year and Women’s Business Development Center Rising Star. This will be the second time that Thiers will speak for Microsoft, as she was a featured speaker at its Small Business Summit last year. Thiers will speak on a panel with several other successful women tech CEOs in an event called TechGyrls. The event will take place in the Microsoft Technology Center, and it will include 25 girls between the ages of 9 and 14. The purpose of the event is to encourage girls to pursue careers in technology and promote women in the tech world across the Chicagoland area.
Thiers has also been a guest speaker and teacher at Harvard Business School, the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business, Babson College, the University of Chicago, Loyola University and Columbia College in Chicago, the national CEO convention, the Heartland Institute, and hundreds of other conventions and events across the country.
