My interest in the elderly community began when I signed up for a college course, "Linking the generations: Communitcation and Aging". Students were given a theoretical background in this field. Weekly class meeting covered topics ranging from Alzheimer's to Tuesdays With Morrie. At the end of the term students had completed 40 hours of community service, mostly in activities. Activities included Sabbath service, beading, bingo, art shows, excursions, wine-tasting, current events and game nights.Â
I am currently employed part-time through Care Givers NW, providing in-home care to the elderly. I cook and feed my clients, provide laundry service, perform housework and provide nurturing companionship. I do not have experience toileting or bathing, but am happy to provide all services which are deemed neceassary.

I volunteered 40 hours at Robison Jewish Health Center, and an Assisted Living Facility in SW Portland. I assisted in a variety of activities, from Sabbath service to beading, and provided general companionship. This was all part of a college course.
