Hello, my name is Ashley Adger and I am eager to express my strong interest in the Teaching Position. I received a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction for Elementary Education from Teachers College Columbia University. I conducted action research where I worked to improve reading comprehension of fifth grade students. I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, as well as, my Alabama State Teaching Certification in both Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. While attending UAB, I simultaneously completed two undergraduate programs while in the aforementioned areas. With over four years of classroom exposure and experience, coupled with my drive to provide all children with an equal opportunity to learn, I am certain that my abilities would be a valuable asset to your school.

My resume illustrates my teaching experience as well as special training that have both equipped me with the tools that I need to empower and educate a vast array of students and their needs. I have been exposed to and participated in a variety of creative learning venues that have aided in my ability to incorporate arts including visual art, music, movement and technology across all areas of learning. I was also fortunate enough to be a part of the Reading and Writing Project while at UAB. This program called for me to plan, implement and lead teams of veteran teachers in professional development workshops and seminars designed to improve effectiveness in the areas of reading and writing instruction. During my time with the Red Mountain Writing Project, I also planned and implemented summer camps designed to inspire students to not only improve their writing ability, but learn to express themselves through creative writing experiences. I was also able to attend seminars and take cohort classes taught by UAB faculty as well as veteran teachers and staff from area urban and rural schools that gave me the proper tools and training necessary to become a more effective educator.

I feel compelled to educate children in a way that “speaks” to their learning style, interests and general needs with an ultimate goal of helping children to become confident, independent and successful. Throughout the course of my educational and professional career I have had the great pleasure of working with a diverse group of students, including students with physical/health impairments, those with learning disabilities, gifted/exceptional children, as students of various socio-economic backgrounds. As a result, I have become skilled in creating interactive and stimulating lesson plans and activities that accommodate the multiple intelligences that existed within each classroom, introduce a hands-on, inquiry based approach to learning, and keep students focused and interested.

My greatest strengths would include my ability to build a positive report with my students which I use to ultimately inspire and motivate them to learn. I enthusiastically work to engage students through the use of differentiated materials and instruction, manipulatives, opportunities for collaboration with both teachers and peers and engaging activities. I feel it is important to adapt each lesson and activity I conduct to meet the diverse learning styles, interests and needs of each student, as well as demonstrate the strong correlation between what students learn in the classroom and the role said knowledge plays in everyday life. In addition, I teach students self-monitoring techniques as well as provide regular feedback and assistance in an effort to boost self-confidence, self-esteem and overall performance. I believe in creating experiences that create lifelong learning and enjoyment for children. I am always looking for new ideas to make learning and life fun and meaningful. I also believe my ability to communicate and collaborate helps me create dynamic relationships with my fellow colleagues. I also feel my experiences in management and education have helped me to become a strong leader both in the classroom and in other settings both personally and professionally.

I have attached a copy of my resume so that you can review my educational, work and training history.  I look forward to speaking with you soon. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
