My name is Nicole Fernandes and I am twenty – four years old. I am a born native of Rhode Island, raised here since birth. I’m very knowledgeable and appreciative of the resources and happenings that are available in this “small” but largely diverse state. I am very family oriented, stemming from being so close to my own and putting great value in the concept of families and morals associated with bonding and relationships. My parents raised my eldest brother and I to be very respectful and mindful of that concept. They are both very active voices and support systems, which I hope to reflect
Aside from being close to my family, I have many other interests that branch off to a broadest of variations. I’m highly appreciative of the many different cultures of the world, including: languages, music, different arts, and facts. I also enjoy reading, educating myself through any form if possible, and languages. Fitness has become something that I recently became sincerely in tuned with. Also I love making good use of nice weather and enjoying nature.
While growing up with two parents who were diligent in their work habits, and equally providing for their children, being perseverant in school studies was something I learned to grasp semi- independently at a very early age. My parents would purchase books, or audio sets and other resources outside of our normal circular, to be more than certain that we remained above the average intellectual level for our ages. This helped develop an early understanding of time- management and abilities to accomplish things thoroughly, efficiently, and in a timely manner. As a child and growing into my adolescence, I truly enjoyed being in school, and learning new things.

Academically, my strong points are Math, French, and some of the natural sciences up until the high school 12th grade level. My parents provided me with a private education, and in return I certainly did not want to put that to waste. During my freshman year in high school I immediately entered 10th grade Geometry and 10th grade French Honor classes at the highest level in courses. By the end of my second year, going into the 11th grade I was enrolled in all honor classes, and became a member of the French Honor Society as a sophomore in high school (something usually done as senior) By my junior year I was selected as one of the chosen students and became a member of the National Honor Society chapter for my school and district (I can provide documentation supporting this is interested.)
My approach to tutoring is initially very liberal. Seeing that every student/child comes with different needs and many different perspectives on learning. Essentially what I ultimately aim for is the goals (which as a “team” the parents, students, and I) that have realistically set aside to be met. There can be a timeframe set up, not that it is necessary, but towards the end of reaching the goal, I would want the student/child to feel much more comfortable in that particular area or subject. Also the reaction in the parent/guardian seeing a true improvement in the work ethic is vitally important. I would hope that my patience and sensitivity to the many different academic mentalities will ensure great success in serving as a tutor. My wishes are not to give false hope in miraculously transforming grades, but what I do desire is to help any student that allows me the time to prove they do have the abilities to become academically stronger, if they work towards it. If I sincerely feel there is a service which I can not provide to my best capabilities, I will remain open in communicating that. I will be willing to accommodate any situation to the best of my will, in doing so realistically.
[Currently I am working towards receiving my bachelors in Psychology paired with French minor studies at Rhode Island College. My ultimate plan is to work in research studies for early child development in relevance to neurological studies. Being amongst children is a sincere joy, and great opportunity, hopefully to better my knowledge for the future. Paired with that, I currently have worked for the YMCA in the after school child care department for the past four years. My hope is to gain a better insight of how children and youth behave through the interaction I receive from being there. I initially became the first O.P.K. leader, which targets the older age of children (ages 10-13) in our program. The O.P.K. (Older Privileged kids) group was designed to teach the children small responsibilities that can ultimately be rewarded. I planned community outreach projects; bake sales and other fundraisers, and field trips. Presently I work with Kindergarten aged children, where I help with homework and teaching them to grasp new concepts, being that they are the youngest group in our program. This has strengthen my patience is a great way and my appreciation for young minds. As a class we do more tasks generated towards fun, which integrates with learning so that they may gradually understand new ideas.]
