I am a 21 year old Texas Tech student. As mentioned before, I worked as a reading teacher for two years with many of my students reading above their grade level. My first tutoring experience was with my little brother, who is dyslexic. Whenever my parents sat down to do homework with him, he would cry and elicit a response. When I started helping him, he soon discovered that I wasn't going to offer any reaction, and we soon got to the point where we could sit down and get to work. I believe in using fustrations to the childs advantage. Instead of letting a child believe they can't obtain their goals, I believe a positive attitude and never giving up will help obtain that goal. I know that dyslexia reaches farther than reading, and makes all subjects more difficult.
