I am currently in my senior year at Azusa Pacific University. I just returned from a semester in Rwanda working as an assistant social worker at a school in a rural village. When I graduate, I plan to continue to work with at-risk youth and students with different learning abilities in non-traditional, educational settings. I have been babysitting ad care-taking since before I can remember. I began volunteering in the nursery at church as soon as I was old enough to and I have not quit working with children since then! I have worked with all ages, from infants to first year college students, in many different settings. Additionally, I took care of my mother who was living with a terminal illness for seven years, which equipped me with several unique and important strategies for care-giving. As time goes on, I continue to fall into incredible opportunities working with children Read more that make me realize my purpose in life is to equip and empower children to dream big and become the best versions of themselves they can be. Over these past few years, I have worked teaching high school students about the college application process in south central Los Angeles. This summer I worked teaching students with different learning abilities through programs designed specifically to meet the needs of each child, in order for them to learn to their maximum capacity. I have volunteered for a week long summer camp for children in the Los Angeles foster care system the last two years and they have been filled with the most incredible experiences. As someone who was forced to grow up very quickly, I missed many crucial aspects of childhood that I believe every child should have to build their confidence and identity. I strive to be someone, in no matter which job I have, that is present, trustworthy, consistent, encouraging, positive, adaptable, a mentor, kind, empowering, and fun. In all I do, I desire to learn and grow, and I believe that children are some of the best teachers.
