Hello, and welcome to my profile! My name is Sophie, and I'm a twenty-eight-year-old female. As I'm sure many people who work in childcare preface their interests with, I absolutely adore children. Since my pre-teen years as a part-time babysitter in high school, my level of understanding children grew with time in college as I continued to babysit part-time in addition to taking infant/child psychology classes. Initially wanting to major in psychology, I switched my major to English my second year, graduating with honors from U.C. Berkeley in 2008. I recently moved to Discovery Bay from San Jose, and I'm looking to make new childcare job connections in this area, which led me right here! While living in San Jose for the past 3 years, I was a part-time nanny/babysitter for two lovely girls, of which the eldest is now 8 and the youngest just turned 5. I'm a true Read more book-worm at heart, and I genuinely adore children's literature. I worked in the children's section of Barnes & Noble in Walnut Creek for nearly four years throughout high school and college, so I'm very knowledgeable about what children typically like to read based on their interests and reading level. I LOVE to read to children as well as help little ones learn how to read. Nothing feels more rewarding to me than instilling or expanding the love of reading and learning in a child. I'm also active and outgoing-- I love going on hikes in local open spaces/state parks, and I adore days spent exploring a beach or a forest. The Bay Area has so many different types of natural spaces to enjoy and to learn from, which is a resource I definitely try to implement if the child's parent(s) are comfortable with it. I tutored students throughout high school and in college, so homework help is not only a breeze, but very enjoyable and rewarding to me. I've also always been a lover of the arts and music, so I'm very craft-resourceful and musical when it comes to playtime! The youngest child I have babysat was 18-months-old, so while pre-potty trained infants are by no means ruled out, I have not had an incredible amount of experience with diaper changing/ infant care. However, the number of children I have babysat is vast and varied, so I am wonderful with children of a wide range of ages.
