I love working with kids because they are spunky and curious, and I have so much fun with them! In my personal life I enjoy reading, writing, and hiking. I love exploring new places and learning new things. I graduated in 2013 from Portland State University with a bachelor's degree. I am enthusiastic, creative, high-energy, and organized. I've spent 3 summers as a camp counselor at an overnight camp in Julian, acting as the primary caregiver for campers ranging from 6-17 years old. I've learned how to be creative and have fun with limited resources. The camp was very kid-centered and we planned our activities around what they wanted to do for the week, while also meeting program goals. We crafted, learned about nature, played games, and tried to achieve what we thought would be impossible at camp. I have experience working as an aide in a learning lab at Read more an elementary school. I helped small groups of children and individuals one-on-one in areas they were struggling with in the classroom. I have volunteer experience with preschoolers in a classroom setting and with special needs children in a K-2 Communication and Behavior classroom. Most recently I worked as a classroom assistant at an independent-study type program for high schoolers. I also have an annual Seaworld pass and would love to take your kids for a day :) I am happy to provide references upon request!
