My name is Jackie Jordan and I am a parent, Jazzerciser, swimmer, runner, sailor, and currently work for a realtor in Lake County. I enjoy children, their enthusiasm, their curiosity, their wonderment. I studied biology in college, worked at the newspapers, sailed in the North and South Pacific and North Atlantic on our own boat, operated a charter boat and crewed on other charter boats in the Caribbean over a span of 10 years, then settled in Lake County to raise our son while commuting to the Bay Area to work again at the newspapers. My child is now grown, but because of our isolated location, we had to arrange play dates for several children when he was very young. We lived on acreage, so had plenty of room to roam, a creek and a pond teeming with wildlife to visit. I took the children on several hikes, just to Read more be outside, to enjoy nature, and see what critters we could find. Their natural curiosity took care of the rest. Also, because we were out in the woods, we had our guidelines to keep safe (staying within visual distance, a little discussion about what to do when we encountered wildlife, signals to each other, where to place their hands when climbing, among other guidelines). I worked at the co-op preschool, then volunteered at the elementary school for 6 years, during my son’s years there. I tutored students through AmeriCorps and the school district for 2 to 3 years and thoroughly loved it. My biggest asset is that I enjoy being with children, enjoy their discovery of the world and believe that they are capable of doing (whatever it is that they are attempting).
