I have been a nanny/babysitter since the age of 12... (when I was FINALLY allowed to take the YMCA “babysitter’s certification” course). My first true ‘nanny’ job started in 2008 and has continued to this day (Only summers during the few years of college). I met them through working as one of the girls’ Kindergarten Teacher’s Intern. Their mother was recently divorced and in desperate need of an extra hand due the girl’s rigorous activity schedule, and to her demanding job as a physician’s liaison at Richmond’s largest hospital. The twin girls were born prematurely, affecting only one of them with Cerebral Palsy. CP is a brain injury that challenges her with limited motor functions and various other physical and emotional issues. I have trained with many of her physical therapists over the years to be able to provide her with at home PT exercises and stretches so she does Read more not have to stay in her electric wheelchair all day. The experience of working with these girls over the years and watching them grow up has inspired me in insurmountable ways. I have watched over 200+ children of every age, gender, and worked with various special needs. I have taken several courses over the years on childcare including; Kindergarten Teacher Intern, CPR certification, first aid, Lifeguard Training, Child Swim Instructor, as well as Nursing school pre-requisites including: Child Development, Psychology, sociology, biology, anatomy, and ethics. Philosophy: I have seen the impact adults make on the children they are around and I want to make a positive difference in every young mind and heart. I find fulfillment in watching children grow and explore the new world around them. I crave the connection to the little humans because they all have such an innocent and unique view on everything. I had a wonderful childhood and I often find myself reminiscing on the good, and even the bad times. What do children like best about me? Infants: Basically that I feed them on time and really good at peek-a-boo. Toddlers: That I actually play with them. Anyone can hand a toddler a crayon and say ‘now go have fun’. I am always up for dress up, singing along with the TV, craft time, playing made up games, and making funny faces at the dog. Kids: I have a lot of energy. I love the outdoors and love sports! Baseball in the yard? Batter up. Swimming in the pool? Lets have a tea party underwater. Going to the park? Race ya! I bet I can swing higher!
