I grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts. Throughout high school, I played a lot of soccer and involved myself in community art projects as well. After high school, I went to Boston to study film. My mom was and is currently an administrative assistant at the elementary school I used to go to. During my college years, when I would come home for break, the elementary schools in my town were still in session and I often subbed to help pay for school. I was first a paraprofessional, working with a range of kids of different ages and abilities (sometimes even up to middle schoolers). Recently, I have also been a classroom substitute, filling in for absent teachers and taking on classes of 20 kids for full school-days. I also was a camp counselor for an camp called NAYEP (Native American Youth Enrichment Program), under a Harvard-run, non-profit organization called PBHA Read more (Phillips Brooks House Association). Each day, I would pick up the kids at their respective homes and bring them to school (2hrs) where I would teach them math, science, reading, writing, and history (especially pertaining to Native American history). After class, we either went swimming (which made me the lifeguard) or went on a field trip (which made me the counselor/hawk-eyed baby sister...have you ever had to watch more than 4 energized and curious kids at once at an aquarium?). After the day was over, I'd drive them home (2hrs) and return home myself, to relax and work on more lesson plans. Additionally, I also coached youth soccer in Boston as well. After working jobs that required so much responsibility and constant attention to detail, being able to just play soccer and have fun was great. I think competition can really be a great thing for kids just as long as everyone is catered to and feels encouraged. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! :) Best, Evan cell: 413.687.7060
