My name is Nicole Shapiro and I am a current student at UCLA. I have extensive experience working with boys and girls from ages as young as two years old through pre-teen years due to my background as a gymnastics coach. Because of this, I recognize and obtain the patience, discipline, and commitment necessary in order to successfully care for children. In this particular job, I grew accustomed to the different developmental stages of kids, from the "Mommy and Me" classes I taught, where the young toddlers need extra comfort and support in order to try new things, to the classes with the older kids, where they flourish when given enough space to feel a sense of independence and capability, while still observing to make sure that they are safe. In addition to classes, I instructed individual and joint lessons as well, so I am very familiar with one-on-one relationships Read more with a children. In all of these instances, I created my own plan for my classes, which consisted of times of seriousness when I was coaching, and organized games for play time in order to create a balance between work and fun. On top of coaching, I have direct experience with babysitting as I have taken care of babies and young children as needed by my parents' friends as well as families at the gymnastics center. This usually consisted of me driving young gymnasts to my house after their practice, which usually ended around the peak of rush hour making it difficult for working parents to pick up, and I would fix them dinner, organize some play time, and get them started and help them with homework until their parents arrived. I have experience in private tutoring with children of family friends, as well as acting as a peer tutor throughout high school, and currently at UCLA with my teammates. Lastly, I have very fond memories of my babysitter from when I was a young girl, and I strive to provide that same care and support that I felt to the kids of whom I take care.
