Hi! My name is Ashley and I am a 30 year old Registered Nurse from Louisiana. Why is a Registered Nurse applying for babysitting jobs you ask? Well, I recently left Louisiana to travel and have landed here in Northridge, CA with my sister. I am waiting for my nursing license to be processed here, but truth be told, I am a little burnt out with the hospital setting and would rather work as a sitter part time (potentially full time) or as needed for the time being. A little background: I have been an RN for 5 years and absolutely love serving as a healing presence for those in need. Being a nurse has definitely made me a more compassionate person and has broadened my world view immensely. So how did I end up here? Well, I was working in Austin, TX in 2013 when my grandmother had a Read more stroke. She was in Louisiana and I was commuting twice a month to aid in her care. When it became apparent that she wasn't going to recover, I made the decision to move back home and care for her as she died and I am eternally grateful to have been there when she did pass away. Watching her suffer for a year both negatively and positively impacted me, as it made me realize how short life is and how the only real time we have is now... So after she passed, I made my move to pursue a dream to work with whales and left for the Azores in April of this year. I spent a month overseas and came to California to spend more time with my sister and see if I want to build a life out here. So here I am! I have a strong work ethic, but I want to enjoy my work again. So yes, once I get my license, I will be picking up shifts as a nurse, but I am not ready to dive back into the stressful hospital environment head first. I am seeking work as a baby sitter because I have always enjoyed working with children and see this as an opportunity to grow maybe not so much professionally, but personally. I have 4 years of childcare experience as I worked in a daycare while in college, plus plenty of babysitting around the neighborhood since I was a teenager. I love animals and have no problems with pets and I am willing to perform household duties and run errands. I also have 2 years experience as a volunteer with an organization that provided play therapy for grieving children back home. There are few experiences more rewarding than the ones I had there. I strive to be a positive, uplifting role model for children and believe that I can learn just as much from them as they can learn from me.
