My name is Melanie I have an Elementary Bilingual Teaching degree (spanish-English) from my hometown Guatemala. I’ve been working with kids since 2006 in many different schools (kindergarten to 6th grade). I'm currently working for a family in Novato, taking care of 5 kids (F5 F8 M8 M10 M11). i just started studying Early Childhood Education at College of Marin I can't yet get a teaching job. But I'm up to teach your kids some spanish, some science, anything they want to learn we can make it fun! My last teaching Job was at Han Al American School (2013). I have also volunteered CISV, which is focused on training kids to go on exchange programs during the summer and become "world citizens". My role was to be a camp counselor, organize games, play with them and at some point (if you pass the evaluations) you travel with them as their Read more leader to the country where the organization invites them. Last year we (4 kids and I) are went to Finland for a whole month! Usually After my teaching job in Guatemala I used to tutor different kids, some of them needed help with their writing-reading learning process, another need help with their english skills, and other kids just need me to help them with homework. Oh! And I also ran homework club at the school I worked for. I've also worked at CIG School in Guatemala as the main english teacher for 2nd grade. Aditionally I worked for 2.5 years as an Art teacher for Elementary. And another year being the main teacher of first grade but teaching science to preschool and 2nd grade. My priority as a teacher and caregiver is to keep the kids safe and engaged. I like to provide them a perfect learning environment in any of the daily situations. I love to be silly around them and to make them laugh. My main policy is to have fun but also respect each other. As an educator I understand that kids have different needs and I like to give each kid different experiences and attend their needs in a personal way. When it comes to discipline “my kids” (that’s how I call my students or the kids I take care of) I think that love and trust is really important. I like to make them feel safe enough so we can talk about any given situation. I also like to make them understand why an action is wrong and how to redeem. Of course I also practice positive reinforcement, I recognize when a job is well done and I encourage that behavior. Is very important for me that they feel loved enough to be a 100% honest.
