Hi there! To be honest, I've never technically had the experience of babysitting in this form. I have worked at a Montessori Preschool (2/13-9/13) with children ages 2-5 and currently (11/13-Present) I volunteer four hours a week at a shelter for women and children. As a child advocate, I am surrounded by children of all ages, (usually around ages 3-13) and what I do is basically what the kids want to do. I love having the opportunity to let their creativity and imaginations come to light. We spend our time doings simple things like drawing or painting to something more active like playing lava monster in the backyard where I am the monster and they run and must hold onto bases if they wish to escape my wrath. One of the things I enjoy the most is communicating with them throughout our activities. I learn so much from them, and Read more I enjoy getting to know them and opening them up to their own self-awareness-- their pleasures, hopes, capabilities, and dreams. I also enjoying trying a little self-reflection and working on empathy when conflicts arise between children. In times of conflict , I like to see if I can help them take on a different perspective, not in an attempt to change them but perhaps what they take out of a situation/their environment. I am currently a 3rd year Psychology student at UC Davis. I am very interested in social behavior in every day life, and although my future plans do not involve working with kids, I very much enjoy spending time with them when I have the opportunity. One of the most rewarding parts of the experience is being able to put on that youthful personality still hidden within and just be a kid with them.
