I look at caregiving, nannying, babysitting (whatever you want to call it!) in a very serious light, and I see it as a priceless opportunity to give to my community. There is an enormous amount of responsibility in aiding parents to care for and even help raise their own children in a safe, engaging and loving environment. There is an understanding by all three parties that must be reached, and it cannot be forced. As a caregiver I understand how valuable attaining mutual respect on behalf of the parents, children and caregiver can be, and this is something that I aim for and prioritize in all of my relationships (both personal and professional). On the other hand, I SO value fun and play when working with and caring for children! I always strive to encourage balance and moderation with kids—learning to be responsible for their actions and duties (homework, chores, Read more manners etc.) on one end, and playing, being active and positive reinforcement on the other. I will always respect the rules set by parents, and love inspiring new, safe and engaging activities (playing board games, reading, exploring the neighborhood, cooking etc.). I've always been very very passionate about children. I'm sure it all started with having two brothers and a very loving, compassionate, devoted mother who is now a 3rd grade teacher. Apart from my very fortunate experience growing up in a nurturing household, I've gained much of my experience through living with younger children over the past 2 years. It never felt like a "job" to care for them (even when it was), but my absolute pleasure. While living in the bay area I worked for an amazing family for 2 1/2 years, both caring for their two children (starting when they were 9 months and 4 years old), and cooking with their mother (a private chef, formerly a cook at Chez Panisse). My personal relationship with this family continues to flourish to this day and I owe much of my passion for children and cooking to them. Most recently, while working in restaurants on the North Shore of Massachusetts, I was so very fortunate to live with an amazing 2 year old and his mother. We spent much of our time together playing outside, taking my dog for walks, working in our little garden and reading. What a joy! While going back to school for an MS in Nutrition, I aim to continue my cooking for whoever I work for. I can offer delicious, local, organic, and nutritious prepared meals for the whole family, on whatever scale desired.
