I've had a lot of experience caring for my younger brother and cousins over the years, the youngest being 6 months and oldest 15. I always try to be considerate of their interests, arranging activities that they'll enjoy. I have many different passions, including movies, music, video games, and reading. If a child needs helpwith their homework, I'm prepared to assist them in any way possible. I helped my Spanish-speaking cousin learn English, as well as basic math and reading skills, so I am definitely prepared to put in the time. I also offer piano and voice lessons for beginners, free of charge! I tend to be pretty strict with the rules of the household, though I compensate for that by distracting the child with a different activity,one that they'd enjoy equally as much. I believe in positive reinforcement; if my cousin finished his homework in time, we'd take the Read more remaining time and play a video-game (usually Little Big Planet, an E-rated platformer) until his mom came home with dinner. This worked out well because I'd work with him, helping to correct any mistakes he may have missed. Eventually, he learned to not rush through the first time, and it greatly improved the time it would take to correct the work, therefore giving him more leisure time in the long run. If requested, I can supply board games, card games, movies, and even video games during the sit. I play a role-playing, tabletop game called Dungeons and Dragons as well, which would be appropriate for children around 10 and up, that really expands the imagination, puzzle and problem solving skills, as well as mathematics skills. If they would like, I'd love to intruduce them to D&D should they be old enough.
