I grew up as the oldest child in a large extended family environment where there were always toddlers and at least a couple babies in the crowd. And since a relatively young age, I was the family member who you could find in the pool getting splashed by all the little children. In fact, I earned somewhat of a reputation for this and after a while, they started to chase me around everywhere I went. Sometimes, even when I wanted to get away, they'd cling on to my legs! Whether or not the adults in the family were just having a good time or taking advantage of a free babysitter, I will never know. But I'll tell you this: I was always a big hit at the parties and our family never had a party where a little kid broke a finger getting slammed it in the sliding patio door Read more or anything like that. Anyway I have had a lot of babysitting gigs since I was relatively young and I am a natural working with children. I have always treasured the laughter and joy I get spending time with with a small person. Here's a bit about my professional experience working with children: I operated an educational home-based daycare business for four years when my older child was one. The ages of the children in my program ranged from 5 months to 7 years, and we had a variety of educational and family activities ranging from academic to life skills such as basic swimming lessons, cooking and learning how to clean up after ourselves. The kids enjoyed my activities and loved the cooking especially. They even had an ongoing "pretend soupmaking" during playtime when they would take leaves from the bushes, add some water from the hose and pretend to make delicious soups with very creative ingredients such as chocolate ice cream. I also taught in a classroom summer school program through the El Dorado County Office of Education where we produced our own version of Don Quixote, and even wrote our own script, painted our own sets and props, and held a final performance for all the parents. They loved it. Finally, I am fluent in Spanish, have a degree from UC Davis in Political Science and I have even formally trained adults in etiquette and communication skills. I don't mean to brag, however my own two kids get compliments all the time on their own superb manners and I think that is important too. So, I am shopping for a family that will make me a great offer because I know the best care for your children is one of the most important decisions you can ever make.
