I got my first start with child care as the neighborhood go-to girl for babysitting. I loved it so much, that I started my own summer day camp for kids to help parents while their children were out of school. I had six little campers, planning daily educational and recreational activities for four hours a day. Once I got into high school, I started working summers at a day camp with 4-5-year-olds, as well as a sleep-away camp for 8-15-year-olds. Then, I worked with my first family full-time, nannying their three children, aged 10 years, four years, and 6 months. I worked with them for over six years. I also spent a summer as a live-in nanny caring for a newborn, aged 2 months, while mom started up work again. My love of childcare also led me to get my Master's in Elementary Education degree. I am currently certified in Read more California for grades K-6. I have been a classroom teacher for 7 years, teaching grades 1-5. I have also volunteered as a running coach for girls ages 9-11. Coaching brought me great joy! Although I loved teaching, I left the classroom two years ago to focus on other pursuits. Since then, I have continued to nanny. I was with a family for 8 months, caring for their newborn and occasionally their 4-year-old for a family with children ages 8 weeks, 3 years, and 6 years. I helped the 3-year-old with potty training so he could enter daycare full-time. I am not currently full-time with this family, but I still watch their kids regularly! My approach to childcare is to be as consistent with your schedule as possible. I love to get the kids out and about for daily walks or enrichment activities. I have a zoo pass, so that's always a fun option!
