Growing up, my mother ran a family day care in our home. For all of my teenage years, I helped her to take care of toddlers and preschoolers. I babysat children out of the house as well. I filled in as a nanny for a one-year-old girl in her home while her regular caretaker was on vacation. In college, I am involved with two organizations that are focused around working with, tutoring, and mentoring young girls. The first organization is called Strong Women, Strong Girls and is a mentoring-based program for 3rd to 5th grade girls. The second organization is called Girls Preparing to Succeed, which is a tutoring and mentoring program for 6th grade and 8th grade girls. I am the Student Leader for Girls Preparing to Succeed, so I have experience with managing larger groups of girls and modeling appropriate behavior for them while also fostering strong relationships. I love getting the chance to know all the kids I work with, because they all have something different to bring to the table. In a lot of ways, I feel like they can teach me even more than I can teach them.
