Growing up in a small town in Oregon with a large family, I learned quickly that I loved children. It's something about their innocent approach to life and their curious minds that brings so much joy to my life. After completing my degree in Human Development and Family Sciences at Oregon State University, where I learned the ins and outs of how children and families develop and function. I now more than ever love children and aspire to positively impact as many children as I can. I just recently was accepted into University of Northern Colorado's Masters program for School Counseling. In two short years my dreams of impacting the lives of children and youth will come true on very real level. My experiences as a nanny include caring for a family with four kids in the summers during my undergraduate studies. Their ages ranged from 1-10 years through those Read more years that I helped the family. I was responsible for ensuring the kid's safety in their home but also in public environments like parks and the pool. I often facilitated developmental learning activities to keep the school aged kid's minds active during the summer months. I cared for the kids physically and emotionally as they needed for extended periods of time, sometimes overnight. The family trusted me and treated me like I was part of the family. Other experiences working with kids include my time as a youth camp counselor at the YMCA. My job here entailed engaging 6-30 youth aged 6-12 in positive learning activities, indoor and outdoor. Activities had a science, math, art, history, or literature focus, encouraging their exploration of school subjects and helping them realize that learning is fun! I supported the youth in their individual learning and growth, often taking the time to really get to know a kid and the challenges they are going through. They are such beautifully complex little humans. I love them for their determination, imagination, and ability constantly learn. I also have experience volunteering at a preschool, where I helped in the classroom with 3-4 year olds. Here I helped design and implement learning activities, as well as prepared snacks and helped with nap time. Additionally I helped with managing children behaviors and group dynamics. I was recently certified in CPR and First Aid in November 2017.
