Hello! My name is Portia Mannix and I am currently an undergraduate student attending American University in Washington, DC, studying international business. I am originally from Cornwall on Hudson, NY, located 60 miles north of Manhattan. Growing up in a small town in the Hudson Valley, with close proximity to Manhattan, afforded me a balanced childhood mingled with sports and culture. I have been an avid horseback rider since I was 4 years old. I was captain of my nationally ranked equestrian team and felt so lucky to be a part of that accomplishment, although with my varsity and junior varsity teammates. I have always loved caring for children whether it be domestically or internationally. I have participated in two service trips, one in the Dominican Republic and the other in Ghana, both of which were focused on education and youth development. I consider myself optimistic, rather outgoing and an overall positive person.
