I have been babysitting since I was about 14 years old. It started with local jobs around my neighborhood and then led to jobs from families with young children at my dance studio. My dance studio also provided me with an opportunity to gain even greater experience with children when they offered me a job as a dance teacher during my senior year of high school. That year, in addition to taking classes as a student at the dance school, I taught two classes. The ages of my students ranged from 6-14. My interest in working with kids also led me to take classes in high school that taught all about child development and included various field placements that helped me gain experience working with children in a classroom. I taught in a preschool classroom as well as a second grade classroom as a result of this program. All of Read more these opportunities have led me to my ultimate decision to study Elementary Education at the University of Delaware. I have almost completed my first year, and I have already had several field placements relating to my major. These include observation visits to two different elementary schools that cater to children with various disabilities, and an elementary school where I actually taught four different lessons to a kingergarten class. At the University of Delaware, I am able to get dual certified which means in addition to majoring in elementary education, I am also studying to become certified in teaching special education. As a babysitter, I feel comfortable with children of all ages. Most children I've babysat for in the past range from ages 4-8 but having a five month old nephew has given me experience with caring for younger children as well. I also do not have an issue with pets as I have two dogs.
