The best caregivers are creative, compassionate, and fervidly interested in their patients and their knowledge both within and outside of their field. I have a passion for working with people, young and old, with special needs of varying kinds. I have been a special needs caregiver for more than two years and I love what I do to enhance the lives of individuals and their families – and have fun while I do it! I have worked with many different individuals with special needs. After high school I worked as a recreation counselor at a daytime habilitation center for adults with developmental disabilities for New York State. I loved the energy given by the people whom I worked with. Every day when I came to work I would be happily greeted by people who were differently abled (both intellectually and physically) – but they did not care – these people Read more are happy to be who they are and they were happy to have my company. I had a special relationship with the people I worked with because I had the patience to listen and care about them as individuals. Ever since this first experience I have wanted to work with people and to help in any way possible. Since then I have worked at a few different jobs. My favorite, which is the most recent and the longest, has been working with children and adults with special needs. I could rattle off to you names of syndromes and disorders which I have personally had experience with over the years, but the list would be terribly long and irrelevant because I see everyone as unique and as people who deserve more respect than a label. In the near future I want to study occupational therapy because I love to help people and I have a lot of patience. I hope to improve people’s quality of life by helping them to acquire daily living skills as an OT. I am a hard worker and I don’t give up until what I’m working on is seen through to completion. I study hard and I love to learn - especially about how things work (the human body’s functioning has fascinated me since childhood!) I am passionate for life and I’m full of eagerness to experience all the world has to offer. I want to help others feel the motivation I feel in my everyday life to live every moment to the fullest. In life one should leave nothing to waste – not one-another, not our “scraps,” and most definitely not our time. I believe that everyone should do what makes them happy, and whatever that thing is they should do well.
