Hi! My name is Maura and I'm currently a senior American University graduating December 2017 and looking for a full time or part-time position. I have been caring for children since I was practically a child and I absolutely love it. I began by helping care for my baby cousins at age 10 and as I got older babysat for them on my own before I started being paid for babysitting jobs. I also babysat children in my neighbourhood and my teacher's children. I cared for a 2 year old boy every Tuesday for a year while his mom taught class. I taught him his ABCs, counting, basic words in other languages, basic piano, and the beginnings of potty training. While I lived in London, I watched my baby cousins. as well as some neighbours children. In addition to babysitting, I was a teacher's assistant for a year at a Read more children's development centre and cared for children ages 15 months- 2 years old. Some of this children had mental and/or learning disabilities, so I learned a lot about caring for special needs. I was also a summer camp counsellor for four years, which involved 7am-5pm days with a group of 11-23 children. In addition to that, volunteered in a classroom with 2-5 year olds, so needless to say I'm extremely comfortable caring for all ages and practically any number of children at once. I have a large amount of experience caring for children under one and most of my families have children in the toddler range, so I'm very used to keeping busy bees entertained. I also know how to get newborns on schedules and do the basics of a mother's helper after picking up the skills from observation. From swaddling, soothing, burping, dealing with a colicky tummy, or a tooth growing in, I've handled it all and if I haven't dealt with it before I learn quickly. I try to be as empathetic as possible to both the children I'm caring for and their parents. I really enjoy caring for children and helping them learn and grow.
