Currently, I am a third year honors student at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, studying the field of Psychology. While maintaining my grade point average in the top 15 percent of my sophomore class, I am diligently pursuing my dream of becoming a leader in the male dominated field of sports physical therapy. Historically, women have made many strides in the world of sports, Alice Coachman, the first African-American woman to win a gold medal to the dynamic duo of Venus and Serena Williams who have forever raised the bar for African-American women in the field of tennis. Instrumental to these historical athletic accomplishments is the intricate field of sports physical therapy. I gained an interest in the field of sports physical therapy. I became interested in the career field of physical therapy after enduring my own treatments from various injuries. In the past I played basketball, ran track, and Read more rugby which led to muscle tears and torn ankle ligaments. When enduring these injuries, my physical therapist interested me in her career because of her determination to help me achieve my highest physical performance. Since then, I have been introduced to internships and have networked with experienced individuals who have helped me plan for my future. Upon graduating from Spelman College in 2017, I plan on attending a graduate school program where I will receive my doctorate degree in sports physical therapy. Among my own experiences of working with physical therapist, I have had volunteer hours working with pediatric occupational therapist. My experience and love for children shifted my career field to specialize in either physical or occupational therapy working with children. I have volunteered at many service sites that are based on children and exercise especially disability needs.
