I am a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BFA in Art Education and of Young Harris College with an AFA in Art. Teaching and inspiring students of all ages is what I do best. I have taught toddlers to adults, each one with success. Most recently, I taught in a virtual environment as an English instructor to Chinese students with You Waijiao. My passion, though, is for education through the arts. When I was in elementary school, I was sent to a secluded classroom for part of the day as a part of the Gifted program with space and supplies to be artistic and creative. It was that experience that created my passion for art education. I was able to apply those creative thinking skills with success in every other subject. Those skills I still use today when I teach. Teaching Art for me is about not Read more necessarily teaching how to create like an artist but teaching how to see like one. While enrolled at Young Harris College, I was employed as a Resident Assistant and a New Student Orientation Leader while maintaining a high-profile status on campus with my involvement in residential programming, clubs, event organization and mission projects. As the President of the Wesley Foundation and the social chair for my fraternity, I planned fundraising events, dances, and hosted variety shows, each one with success. My service was honored by the college with the Pacesetter Award in 2010. As a servant at Camp Glisson, I worked my way up from a counselor to the Art Director then to Retreat Guest Host. I maintained facilities, provided information and care for guests, monitored and led activities, and built lasting relationships with everyone involved. Those skills from every one of those experiences only bettered my ability to teach as an artist. Not everyone can be taught how to be an artist, but everyone can be taught how to see like one. A blank canvas, piece of paper, or slab of stone or clay can be intimidating to most. This is probably because most people look at it for what it is, not what it could be. My hope is for everyone I teach not to be intimidated by what is, but be inspired by what is yet realized.
