Hi! My name is Doug. I love working with young children. I prefer working with ages birth to age 5. This is uncommon of course since many males stray away from the field of early childcare, but I have grown confident in myself to accept that working with small children is what I love. I always used to worry about what other people would think of me as a male. Does working with small children make me less of a man? Will parents and guardians think that I have bad intentions? These are just a couple of questions I asked myself growing up. I realized I loved working with small children when I used to take care of my two cousins Alicia and Andrea. Their mother, my Aunt Carol, and my mother noticed I had a gift with nurturing small children once they left them in my care. I graduated Read more from the University of Alabama at Birmingham on December 17, 2011 with a BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) degree. I thought this would be the best way to help children in need. Over the years, I realized that sad cases dealing with children was not something I could handle as well as I thought. I would rather see the beautiful part of life with children in nurturing them. I have experience working in early childcare as a substitute teacher for the Head Start program as well as a Head Start Teacher Assistant for 1 year. I loved it! I knew a few of the parents of the children I took care of. Their reaction to me being their child's teacher was a positive one. I've never received so much warmth and praise in any career I've done before or after. I've learned that this is my greatest passion and that I should actively pursue working with children.
