I want to be a babysitter because I love children: I don't just think I like kids because they're cute and I haven't been around them long enough to know the difference, I know. I have read books on raising children and one of the more important things I have learned is that every child is different and needs to be treated differently. Still, there are things to do I know apply to every situation, and I would like to touch on two of them here relating to safety and discipline, respectively. Safety is always the top priority. Children need to be watched 100% of the time if they are below the age to know better about how to keep themselves safe, and if they're older they need to be checked on periodically. I've heard too many stories about how the parents were out of the room for 15 minutes Read more and that was all it took. I used to be a lifeguard and the supervisor told me that every time she had had a child drown, though it was to an extent the lifeguard's falut and the lifeguards were fired, the parents also were not watching them. She blamed the parents much more than the lifeguards for these situations. When I am the babysitter, I would see myself as being in the role of the parent and I would watch the child constantly. On discipline, I know the reasons the child is being disciplined need to be thoroughly explained, and if the child is very young it needs to be explained even if it has been many times before. I can remember being a child, and that there were some times when I got in trouble and I didn't know why, and it would lead me to think that my parents weren't paying attention to me and even that they didn't know what they were doing. That is why I would explain and then listen to their side. I am a volunteer preschool teacher at my church, which is the absolute highlight of my week; I love teaching them. I do want to be a part- or full-time nanny but I don't want to jump into that because I have so little experience. If that is what you're looking for, though, I don't have any reservations or concerns, I just believe it is important to learn as much as you can about a new job before doing it full-time, and I especially feel this way since I am so committed to succeeding. I have been a lifeguard and First Aid and CPR certified in the past through American Red Cross for lifeguarding, and I am planning on taking a course to again have First Aid and CPR certification for childcare. Thank you for reading, and I hope to hear from you.
