I am the oldest of six, so my first experiences with child care were babysitting my younger siblings. As I got older I started watching the neighbor's children, and eventually became a nanny while I was pursuing my undergraduate degree. When I was 18 I spent several months in Zambia, Africa where I volunteered at different orphanages. At some I worked primarily with infants and toddlers under 3 years of age, and at others I focused my time caring for special needs children. One orphanage took solely children who had vision impairments , or were completely blind, while another had a program for children with cerebral palsy. This was an amazing experience for me and helped fuel my desire to study global issues, and eventually led to my decision to focus on women's health, early childhood development, and to become a midwife and a Doula; which is the current path Read more I am on. Apart from being a nanny and volunteering I've also worked at several summer camps for children. One job was at a botanical garden and focused on teaching botany related topics, and one was at a Jewish heritage camp where young Jewish people would come together over the summer to learn about their heritage. I have also been employed at a Montessori preschool working with infants and toddlers aged 2 months to 2 years, and loved every minute of it. After that I provided childcare for two amazing families with children ranging from 4 months to 2 years full time in Austin Texas for nearly a year. I also have worked as a housekeeper and cook before so I am available for that kind of work as well. Right now I am busy with being a volunteer Doula, and going to school so I cannot commit to being a full time Nanny at this moment. I am seeking positions that are irregular, and on an as needed basis. Probably the best fits would be occasional date night, or special event sitting where I am not your only option- meaning you can call me, and if I can, I will be there. I would be a great back-up or substitute Nanny as well for those times when your regular help is unavailable. Also- as I am a Doula in training (please ask me more about this if you are interested in having a Doula), if there are any new mothers or expectant mothers looking at this- I'd love to do post partum work for you and your family, providing infant care, and household chores for when you first come home and are needing that extra bit of help, or rest.
