I grew up as the oldest in a family of 5. My youngest sister has Down Syndrome and is autistic, as is my cousin. I rarely had a "real job" through high school and college due to living in a town with a Coast Guard base, and as they move every 4 years they share everything, so once I started sitting for one family I had all the business I could handle. I love helping families with special children, both because I know it can be hard for parents to feel safe leaving these children with others, and because I know from my own family how rarely such parents get to take a break, and how much it is needed. I tend to get along well in particular with children in the autism spectrum, but of course patience and a level head are not bad qualities for working with any Read more child. I consider myself a babysitter, and not a nanny -- I want to help out families that need a little more than the average 15 year old down the block can provide. I have a great deal of personal flexibility, but I do sit for several families on an as needed basis, so I may not always have unlimited availability.
